Dyer Engineering is a multi-discipline civil engineering firm based in Reno, Nevada, specializing in aviation, development, environmental, mining, and water resources engineering. 


Our track record is our greatest sales pitch. We have completed engineering projects in most of the Western United States with the majority of our work being focused in Nevada, California, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. We have also performed civil engineering services internationally in Europe, Central America, Canada, and worked with clients from China.




Dan L. Dyer, P.E. 

Dan is a Principal Engineer and the Founder of Dyer Engineering. He has an M.S. in Civil Engineering and a B.S. in Economics from Brigham Young University. In past years, while workings for others, he has managed multiple offices for various multi-state and national engineering firms.  He started DEC in 1998, and has over 30 years of engineering management experience. His skills as a manager have been tried and tested on many multi-million dollar projects. Dan has experience on broad list of project types; from roads, utilities, and development to over 100 dams and reservoirs, and many major mining projects around the globe.

Shane K. Dyer, P.E., W.R.S.

Shane is the General Manager and President of Dyer Engineering. He is an experienced engineer and project manager with over 17 years of industry experience. Shane has a M.S. in Engineering and Business with a focus on Business Management from the Marriott School of Business (BYU). He is a Water Rights Surveyor in the State of Nevada, excelling in hydrology and hydraulics, storm water design, and storm water treatment.  Shane's broad experience base allows him to understand projects holistically from geotechnical investigation, storm water controls, and geometric design to paving, complex utility conflict resolution, public outreach, and construction management. In 2014 Shane was named ASCE Young Engineer of the Year for his continued excellence and innovative design, and in 2017 he was named one of Reno’s 20 under 40 for excellence in business.

Lonnie J. Johnson, P.E. 

Lonnie is the Vice President and a Principal Engineer at Dyer Engineering with experience in Public Works Infrastructure and Land Development.  Lonnie has a passion for helping our communities thrive through projects that enhance our public works infrastructure and implement sustainable land development practices.  He has expertise in the management, permitting, design and construction administration of roadway rehabilitation, sanitary sewer, storm drain and water systems projects.  He is also an expert in municipal, commercial, mixed-use and residential land development.  Lonnie has a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Civil & Environmental Engineering, both from Utah State University.
