Hannukainen Mine, Lapland, Finland

DEC was retained by Northland Resources to assist in the design of the highwalls for the proposed Hannukainen Mine.  The walls will be over 200 meters high and about 1.5 kilometers in length.  DEC inspected the existing exposed rock at the site and observed several thosand feet of existing core as part of the project. Initial rock characteristics were determined using rock mass rating methodolgy.  Additional geotechnical drilling, including directional drilling, and Laboratory testing is in progress. The facility is located above the arctic circle, near the Swedish border.
